Paid Summer Research Opportunity for Teachers and Female Students

The University of Georgia in Athens, GA is seeking female high school (freshmen to
seniors) students who are currently enrolled in a Georgia high schools to participate in a month long research experience in the college of engineering at the University of Georgia under a National Science Foundation funded opportunity called Women Electrochemical Engineer fellowship. The goal of the fellowship is to provide research opportunities to female high school students who have interest in a STEM career to explore the cutting-edge research topics and latest advancements in the areas of chemical, biological, agricultural, biomedical engineering and related disciplines in order to stimulate young women’s interest in an engineering career. The female student must be accompanied by a high school science teacher who will also participate in the research activities with the student at UGA on research topics such as biosensors, fuel cells etc. in the Nano Electrochemistry Laboratory under the supervision of the lab director Prof. Ramaraja Ramasamy for a one month in summer (June or July). Both the participating teacher and student are expected to provide a written and oral report at the end of the fellowship term. The participating teacher is expected to develop an educational plan to incorporate the engineering topics learned during their experience in their high school science courses / curriculum.
Paid Stipend Amount: $3000 for teachers, $1000 for students
Period of Fellowship: 1 month, June 1-June 30 or July 1 to July 31.
